Er det noen som har en forklaring på hvorfor dette kalles en Montgomery dial?

The Montgomery Safety dial was invented by Henry S. Montgomery, the General Watch and Clock Inspector from 1896 to 1923 for the Santa Fe Railway. The dial was used exclusively across the entire Santa Fe Railway system. The dail was used for the safety of crew members for the Santa Fe. Montgomery used Mercurial Pendulum regulators at all crew change points across the system for crewmen to set their pocket watches to. The safety dial ensured accurate time readings. The red numbers at the quarter hours were used mainly on pocket watch dials. Black numbers were used on the clocks with larger numbers appearing on the 5 second intervals. The crews for thier own safety would set thier watches to the regulators before coming on duty. Time keeping was essential before signaling and radios became the norm on the railroad. If you were to meet a train at a certain siding at a certain time according to train orders, you had better make darn sure you had an accurate accounting of time! If you would like to see a couple of samples of the Montgomery dial on clocks, go to www.dslextreme.com/users/santafeman and check out the clock pics. Hope this helps.
