A couple of days ago I was in Cannes for business but had the inbetween time to browse through some of the shops that offer watches and some other fun stuff:chuckle:. I had my sights on vintage Rolex and 3 watches I hadn't yet had the pleasure to try on (the Hulk, IWC portuguese and AP ROO).
My first stop was this shop, a second hand place near the beach, which had a couple of Speedys, Hublot, a beat up Richard Mille..
.. mainly dress watches and boy size, unfortunately no vintage Rolex:crying:
So went to the local AD, Louis Julian et fils, friendly very pro staff unfortunately they were redecorating the shop so not much available and no steel subs or GMTs..
The AD had an ok selection in TT rolex watches which are very popular in the Riviera
all 3 Milgausses were in the shop window:thumbsup:
Never liked TT but this TT GMT IIc was very very nice, unfortunately no discount
The smurf was sooo heavy and solid
Breguet and Blancpain shops were neighbours, small shops with small and selected selection, pretty good
The 50 Fathoms Blancpain, fantastic but for me unwearable in 45mm
So no Hulk sub and no vintage so far :banghead: ... went for a swim with the Daytona
Omega staff was also very friendly and had a wide selection. Tried the Ploprof for fun, never considered it due to its size but it was surprisingly wearable:thinking: probably due to strap design and a positive surprise, went on my to-buy-list
Only 357 to be made of this rattrapante!! Speedy (note the extra pusher), loved it but 11k euro for an Omega wasn't really for me
This De Ville chrono was also great, almost bought it , but then I realised I liked it because it was so similar in style and wear to my Daytona
No time to go to the Jaeger store which is owned by the Rolex AD...
Arije is the AP, IWC store based in a hotel also at the beach. Beautiful friendly shop girls also very up to date with all models:thumbsup:
Went straight for the AP ROO with leather strap, to my surprise unwearable due to my skinny wrists, even the shop assistent didn't approve:banghead:
NExt was the IWC portuguese, fitted nice but I just didn't like it a lot.. Felt it was "too much crystal" all over the watch... Thank god I didn't pull the trigger on a forum deal the other week
THis AP RO 15300 was the big surprise:thumbsup::thumbsup: Fantastic, just loved it, fitted perfectly. NEver considered it before but went straight to nr 1 with the Hulk on my buy list:chuckle: No discount here either, and a lot more expensive than the regular prices with the grey dealers... but I went back the following day lurking and almost bought it, wow very nice.
So no buys, I'm not much of an impulse buyer. But a lot of positive surprises ... AP RO , GMT IIc and Ploprof. Just shows how important it is to try-before-buy:thumbsup:
