I wanted an automatic watch in the 90´s but it was a hell to find at the time: Quartz was king and nobody was asking for mechanical watches.
Anyway, around 1997 I was working at Place Vendôme in Paris and every day I was passing by the Cartier shop which had some Subs on it´s front window: I remember well that I liked the green model...
The price was about 23000Nok at the time in 97 , something like that: Converted from Francs to Kroner. That was before the føcking Euro arrive.
I was doing a huge steel piping job for the Chanel perfume school at the time and that Sub would have cost me nearly twice my monthly paycheck: I decided to pass for economical priorities... And I did hold on my few army regiment Vostoks I had at the time: The was cheap automatics and working good enough for me.
The years went by, I moved to Norway in 2000 and I started to make better buks: Still, the Sub´s price was growing up and when it came to the point that I could afford one, I had accumulated so much knowledge about watches, that I came to a point where I didn´t want a Sub anymore.
We can say that I had my time to think about the whole Rolex branding etc... I never bought an "expensive" watch on impulse in fact.
I guess that the constant internet bragging been putting me in serious doubts about owning a Rolex as well.
Certainly because I like to own things for my own taste: Not for fitting into any mould.
Well, that´s my vision.

Don´t forget that many watches from other brands been iced, cooked, falling etc and still did work.
